Why replace your garage door?
21/11/2017
These days garages are increasingly being used for storage as well as extensions of living space. It is therefore really important to check your garage door to ensure that there are no issues which could affect the safety or security of your garage. We recommend looking out for the following:
1. External damage
First of all take time to inspect the outside of your door for gaps, cracks or large patches of rust. These could all be indicators of much bigger problems that could affect the functionality of the door as well as compromise the security of belongings being kept in it. If there is significant damage this is a sign the door needs replacing.
2. Unusual sounds
Your garage door should open in a smooth movement and relatively quietly. If opening and closing the door becomes difficult, or there are unusual noises such as scraping or clunking when opening this is a signal that something is not quite right. If this is the case, it’s best to get a professional to come and look at the door. They will be able to identify the problem quickly and recommend the steps to take to keep your garage safe and secure.
3. Heat efficiency
It is not uncommon for people to heat their garages as many are attached to houses and used as workspace. If you find bills are soaring during the winter months, it is worth checking the thermal efficiency of the door, as well as for any gaps in the weather stripping which could be causing heat loss. Insulated doors are also something to consider to help keep the temperature up and bills down.
