My Garage Will Not Work
11/04/2017
At Huddersfield Garage Doors we have been helping customers with their residential and commercial garage door problems for more than two decades. Drawing on our experiences, here are some of the most common reasons for doors not working which should help you decide whether you need expert help or whether it is a problem you can attend to yourself:
Blockages
If you have an automated door which is not closing properly, this could be because an object is in its way. This is usually the case if the door is able to close part way and then reverses. Check that there are not items, such as tools, toys or garden furniture in the way – if the sensors pick up on these, the door will not close fully as the safety mechanism, which is designed to stop it crushing things in its path, will kick in.
Transmitter issues
If the transmitter is not working, it may simply be that the battery needs replacing, so it’s a good idea to check this first. It’s also worth checking that you are close enough for the signal being transmitted to reach the door.
Misaligned tracks
Another common problem is that the track your door moves on may have become misaligned. If this is the case you may hear a rubbing noise as it opens and closes, or the door may not even move at all. Here, it is often best to call in a professional to help realign the track rather than trying to unscrew and level it yourself.
Broken cables and springs
If your garage door closes really quickly and nosily as it hits the ground, this is a sign that a tension spring or cable has broken. This is extremely dangerous as it means there is nothing stopping the door squashing any object in its path each time it is shut. It’s important to get this repaired as quickly as possible by an expert to prevent damage to belongings, vehicles or people.
If you are in any doubt to what the cause of the problem is, it’s always best to seek specialist advice. To talk to an expert, do not hesitate to give Huddersfield Garage Doors a ring now on 01484 829 612.
